Recasting the Shadow

DATES: 15 Sep.—22 Sep. 2024
The Fortunae, Brunswick East Melbourne
Presented as part of Radiant Pavilion 2024

Objects of play commune with our interior worlds. Talismans can become reminders of what is felt and not seen. The nature of the miniature evades time and invites us into a space of reverie. Recasting the Shadow exhibited a series of intimate sand–cast sculptures exploring the connection between object and intuition.

The sculptural forms were expressions of curiosity and narrative play. They utilised symbols and archetypes as an invitation to explore essential storytelling and the poetic. The miniature scale of the sculptures ask us to hold them close, to cherish, to create our own meaning and connect with the sense of play within.

Were you a child who coveted tiny objects? These are for you. These are interior objects; objects which become an offering or affirmation to our interior world.

Recasting the Shadow—Child-like Exchange

Small treasure for small treasure; a very good stone, gold coins, a drawing, something sweet…whatever feels right for you.

As part of the exhibition celebration the sculptures were offered up for exchange, this was an opportunity to discuss the context of the work and an invitation to the audience to engage in their own child-like creativity.

Thank you to everyone who got involved!
